Gmail allows you to force the login using the Secure Channel (https). This reduces the chances of your Gmail account getting hacked.
- Login to your Gmail account
- Click 'Settings'
- Scroll down to the bottom on the 'General' page
- Under 'Browser connection:' click on 'Always use https'
- Click 'Save Settings'
